Karen Irvin headed the dance department at Cornish School of the Allied Arts for 27 years and founded the Cornish Ballet. She was born in Hastings, Penn., ca. 1910 and moved to Seattle at age eight. Irvin joined the Cornish faculty in 1945 and became the head of the dance department in 1952. She also gave dance lessons in Mt. Vernon and Sedro-Wooley, Washington, in the 1940s.
